This example of methods in action involves a worked-through analysis of occupational data taken from the 1921 Census of England and Wales. The case takes the reader through the various stages of analysis, starting with the extraction of raw data from published Census volumes through their input into the software program Excel, culminating in the production of various types of graphical representations. This is complemented by a short interpretative section that illustrates how such data can be incorporated into wider social scientific discourse
