Summary This case examines the application of researcher protocol-administered structured interviews, supported by personal observation. Extending on empirical work utilizing methods from sensemaking theory to understand the phenomena of entrepreneurial opportunity among biotechnology entrepreneurs in Malaysia, I discuss the values gained from using structured interviews and personal observation as well as several challenging issues I experienced. Hence, I reflect on my research and some of the critical issues that transpired when engaging these tools
