"In order to best understand the impact an intervention can have on pediatric patients, a basic understanding of both brain development and brain injury are necessary. Initial theories of brain injury proposed an advantage of early age, suggesting greater plasticity of the brain. However, growing literature supports the contrasting heuristic provided by Maureen Dennis.1 This widely accepted theory emphasizes the increased vulnerability of the developing brain.
