Summary |
In April 2005 the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) developed and published a consensus worldwide definition of metabolic syndrome. It is defined as central obesity in concurrence with any two of the following factors: raised triglycerides, reduced HDL cholesterol, raised blood pressure or raised fasting plasma glucose. This program discusses the changes made to the definition and the implications of these changes for both practitioners and patients. Key areas include prevention, treatment and management of metabolic syndrome in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians |
