Summary Haliotids are expensive seafood molluscs known as abalone. The research involved cloning and expression of genes involved with their reproduction, including some involved with female egg-laying. Genes characterised in this study were put into bacteria to make reproductive molecules which were then injected into abalone to induce spawning. The results provide important information towards abalone cultivation
