Summary This book analyses the long term spatial-economic metamorphosis of Schiphol and the Schiphol region as archetypal for a wider international phenomenon of urban development of metropolises across the world. It study the origins and course of urban development process by identifying and explaining which (collective) arrangements, including their ambient factors and the visual representations of the city and urbanity, have influenced this metamorphosis in a decisive manner
