Summary This week Karl and Adam take us through the fascinating world of colour. We follow the moment photons leave the sun right up to the point that the brain processes the waves and interprets them as colours.Adam explains optical illusions while Karl compares types of light, (tungsten, fluoro and LED). Karl visits an eye specialist to discover why some people's eyes are blue, and in doing so finds out he has a scarred retina. He also gets an MRI to find the colour centres in the brain. In finding them he also discovers he has a non-symmetrical brain. Adam investigates the way that colour determines the value of salmon and how farmers dye the fish through their feed. The Geeks explain why we see rainbows and why the rainbow we're looking at is different from the one the person next to us is looking at. Karl uses a laser and coloured balloons to explain wave absorption and show how to pop a red balloon inside a green balloon. Ruben ignites hydrogen-filled balloons to produce explosions of heat and visible light. By adding chemicals called metal salts he creates a colourful firework display. Karl tries to pop a green balloon with a green laser and Ruben ignites mineral salts to create colourful fireworks. Claudia Karvan enters the Geekdom and is joined by students of Brent St School for a brilliant explanation of how we see rainbows.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Series Producer: Chrissie McIntyre; ABC Executive Producer: Sophia Zachariou.
