Abstract: "By evaluating the private and social costs of dryland salting and associated stream salinity, the study identifies alternative land use systems with potential to alleviate salinity problems, while maximizing economic returns to producers. These systems require relatively minor changes to present land use in association with the introduction of agroforestry in certain areas. Several policy options are proposed where 'incentives' may be needed to encourage the adoption of alternative land uses by private landholders." -- verso p
