Summary |
Filmed in Papua New Guinea's jungles and Brisbane in Australia, this is a fascinating look at how different cultures approach art and how one man and his wife took their art to a new audience.Charismatic artist and Highland community leader Dr Michael Mel, challenges colonial stereotyping by asking international art-goers to "construct their own native". He invites them to paint his near-naked artist partner and wife Anna, in ochres and priceless feathers.Surviving dangerous cross-tribal journeys to obtain the rare ceremonial artifacts for their art, the film finishes 10 years later with Anna's last interview before she tragically succumbs to breast cancer at 45, still committed to the political and creative empowerment her work has brought to Papua New Guinea.PRODUCTION DETAILS: Director/Producer: Ian Lang; Associate Producer/Editor: Axel Grigor; Associate Producer: Judith Hewitson; and music: Colin Webber |
