Summary |
'The Churchill Play', in this revised version first performed by the RSC in 1978, examines the future England might have had, a world Brenton felt could come to pass after seeing the Conservative party rise to dominance in 1980s politics. The play's title is the name of a play within the play: a performance being put on by the internees in a British prison camp, named after Winston Churchill. These internees are victims of the fascistic future Brenton foresaw as the possible legacy of the Rightist ideologues of the late twentieth century |
