Summary |
Dr. Vaughn Clift (medical scientist) develops medical technology for astronauts at NASA (National Aeronautic and Space Agency) in Houston, Texas. The bizarre conditions in space are a great stimulus to creative solutions to very unusual problems. Amongst other things, he has invented a simple way of collecting and preserving blood without the need for refrigeration. This dried-blood technology is already earning NASA billions of dollars in "spin-offs" for the medical industry. Dr. Clift shows us the sort of work he does, while taking viewers on a guided tour around the Johnson Space Center. Here we see the Space Shuttle Trainer, also the chamber where researchers are locked away for months to study recycling, and the famous "Vomit Comet," an aircraft that drives to simulate zero gravity |
