Summary The world today has an insatiable appetite for energy. It is tied to economic growth and is considered by many to be indispensible. We use it to heat, cool and light up our cities, to power our cars and fly our planes. In 1980, the average American home contained three electronic devices, today each has over 25. Most of that energy comes from burning coal, oil, and gas. So, with demand predicted to triple by the end of the century, how we get the energy our world needs, in a way that won't threaten it, is a huge challenge. The United States has invested tens of billions of dollars in clean energy projects as their leaders try to save their crumbling economy and our planet in one bold, green stroke. This program questions whether we are finally on the brink of a green-energy 'power surge', or whether it is a case of too little, too late. From solar panel factories in China to a carbon capture-and-storage facility in the Sahara desert to massive wind and solar installations in the United States, the program travels the globe to reveal the surprising technologies that just might turn back the clock on climate change. It looks at the latest and greatest innovations, including everything from artificial trees to green reboots of familiar technologies like coal and nuclear energy. The technology, which helped create this problem, may now be in a position to help to solve it. (From the US) (Documentary) CC
