First World War (Marlborough, England)
|
Summary |
Electronic reproduction of commissioning documents for the work of British war artists in the collections of the Imperial War Museums. The commissioning documents consist of correspondence and official papers relevant to much of the work by British war artists under commission from the Ministry of Information and the Imperial War Museum. The files track the collaboration with artists from the point of their commissioning to discussions about proposed pieces, the execution of the work, and the exhibition of works throughout Britain. There are also details of travel arrangements for artists to visit the Western Front, the Middle East and other fronts, and information on the difficulties of producing art during and immediately after the war. The collection includes documents concerning the work of John Lavery, Muirhead Bone, C.R.W. Nevinson, Paul Nash, and women artists such as Beatrice Lithiby and Anna Airy |
