Description 1 online resource (13 minutes)
Summary The interview begins with the clinician acknowledging Sam appears particularly down. Sam makes little eye contact, speaks softly, and displays little energy. Lately, Sam has been thinking about cutting herself in order to help her feel and see a little blood. She says she would use a box cutter from her parents garage to cut her leg or places others wouldn't see. Though she understands it would hurt, she hopes it would make her feel good. Upon further questioning, Sam admits to cutting herself two months ago. When asked about suicide, Sam becomes quiet and unresponsive. She later reveals she has recently thought about suicide. She describes welcoming these suicidal thoughts as they made her feel good and in control. Sam has considered ways to commit suicide and has the means to carry out these plans. These thoughts occur when Sam is feeling "grey," or in between her manic and depressive episodes, and don't have any specific triggers. Thinking about her brother and sister prevent her from acting upon her suicidal plans, as well as the knowledge that there are days where she will feel better in the future
