Summary |
Patrick Hamilton's bestselling trilogy revolves around The Midnight Bell, a pub off the Euston Road. It follows the painful pursuit of love from three different perspectives - Bob, who yearns for penniless street-walker Jenny, Ella, torn between the attentions of an older, wealthier man and her secret desire for Bob, and Jenny, forced onto the streets. This beautifully observed series captures all their emotions - unrequited love, ambition and disappointment. Having lost the courage to meet Bob, the barman from the Midnight Bell pub, Jenny goes back to walking the streets. She picks up a man who seems oddly familiar, and later recognises him as having played a part in her fall from respectability. Starring Bryan Dick, Sally Hawkins and Zoe Tapper. Screenplay by Kevin Elyton, based on the book by Patrick Hamilton |
