Series Legends in Concert
Summary Elvis Presley is an icon of the second half of the twentieth century. Creator of rock'n'roll through the explosive fusion of country & western and rhythm & blues, he quickly shook up musical and behavioral codes and generated a unique cultural revolution. Recorded at the start of his career, the King reviews many of his hits here, including "Heartbreak Hotel," "Don't Be Cruel," and "Love Me Tender." Often captured in multiple versions, these classics are complemented by other compositions from the era such as the emblematic "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins ("One for the money, two for the show"...) and the radiant "Tutti Frutti" by a certain Little Richard. An essential link between the Sun sessions and the (successful) television comeback of 1968, this fringe portion of the repertoire remains unsurpassable and makes us forget the paternalistic directives of Colonel Parker and a formulaic, even opportunistic filmography... As such, this period will be frequently revisited by the next generation: one obviously thinks of the cool cats of the Clash, who will pay homage to Elvis through the cover of "London Calling," and even the dark Nick Cave, who will reprise the host of Graceland-Memphis Tennessee, not without talent. Vincent Caffiaux
