Description 1 online resource (43 minutes)
Summary We are on the island of Porquerolles in the Provencal Mediterranean, where jazz soaks its feet every summer. In 2014, festival-goers witnessed the arrival of Captain Archie Shepp - born in 1937, one of the most prominent of the free-jazz saxophonists. He disembarked with his crew: Tom McClung (piano), Hamid Drake (drums), Reggie Washington (bass) and Jean-Paul Bourelly (guitar). The blues winds blew on the embers of these glowing musicians, through the voice of Bourelly on his composition "Nu Afro Blu" and, of course, through Shepp who concluded the concert with his own "Blues In Orange." In the meantime, even the standard "Round Midnight" remained connected to the roots, allowing soloists to evolve freely on top. This fortuitous film bears witness to one of the most beautiful formations ever assembled around a saxophonist. Eric Delhaye
