Summary |
Starting in 1716, Pirate Diary describes the adventures of nine-year-old Jake Carpenter, as he discovers the thrills and perils of life on the high seas. Through Jake's eyes we explore the good ship Greyhound fore and aft, and meet its colourful crew - from fearsome Captain Nick to Jake's new friend, the cook's boy Abraham. We learn about ship's biscuits (and the worms that live in them!), of mainmasts and topsails, of charts and backstaffs... For Jake, though, the real excitement begins when pirates capture the ship. Now he finds himself embarking on a new life on the wrong side of the law: he takes part in a daring treasure raid, encounters a sea monster, endures a terrible storm and learns all about the pirate code |
