Summary *Violence*This episode looks at the Hollywood movie, The Hunt For Red October. Based on the best-selling book by Tom Clancy, The Hunt for Red October tells the story of a Russian captain who attempts to defect to the West in a nuclear submarine. The film, starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, was also inspired by an extraordinary incident during the Cold War.In 1975, a Soviet naval Political Officer, Valery Sablin, started a real life mutiny. Disillusioned by the Soviet leadership, Sablin stole the state-of-the-art warship, The Sentry. Instead of defecting to the West like in the movie, Sablin planned to travel to Leningrad where he planned to broadcast a message calling on the people to overthrow their corrupt leaders.Featuring interviews with midshipmen and lieutenants directly involved with the mutiny, drama reconstruction, CGI, and recently released documents and secret radar footage, The Hunt for Red October: The True Story tells this remarkable tale.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Producer/Directors: Virginia Quinn and Chris Mitchell; Executive Producers: Alison Turner and Dan Chambers.
