Summary |
Vita Bar is a contemporary and successful nutrition bar company that grew from its humble incubator kitchen origins to a nationally recognized brand in sports nutrition. The Vita Bar team has been encouraged to leave its start-up incubator, find their own production, and create enough product to satisfy national demand. To meet this demand, Vita Bar must shift from current yearly production of nearly two hundred thousand bars to more than one million. In addition, the team must improve its sourcing costs and increase bar flavor options to compete with other leading brands and garner expansion capital. This case involves investment decisions to scale-up a nutrition bar company from an incubator kitchen model to a full-scale independent production business capable of manufacturing enough product to serve mass retail. Students are tasked with determining what will be required for a nutrition bar manufacturing line, including equipment, employee, facility, and capital needs. In addition, students are challenged with improving bar ingredient sourcing, including offering a new bar flavor to meet surging market demand |
