Summary |
Surgeon, author and winegrower Max Lake is probably best known as one of the pioneers of the Australian wine boom. After a distinguished medical career, he established Lake's Folly in the Hunter Valley in 1963 - one of Australia's first and most prestigious boutique wineries. In 1966, he published his benchmark volume, Classic Wines in Australia. He went on to write numerous other books and became a renowned international judge of wine and food and an obsessive student of the senses.
