Mental health impacts of racism and attitudes to diversity in Victorian schools : a summary of survey findings, Localities Embracing and Accepting Diversity (LEAD) / Naomi Priest, Angeline Ferdinand, Ryan Perry, Yin Paradies & Margaret Kelaher
In 2007 the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) published findings from a survey of 4,000 Victorians, the majority of whom supported a society that included people from different cultures. However 10 percent of respondents also displayed views that were clearly racist. The Localities Embracing and Accepting Diversity (LEAD) program was developed in response to these findings. This is a summary of the report in response to research conducted at the beginning of the LEAD program to ascertain the level of racism and its impact on the mental health of school students and staff in local government areas and explore their attitudes towards cultural diversity.
