Summary This compelling new six-part series follows the lives of eight young hopefuls who share the lifelong dream of becoming a vet. For the 5th year students coming to the end of a gruelling course, the time has come for them to be unleashed onto the busy wards of Murdoch University's state-of-art teaching hospital.Episode 1 starts with Susie's first day back at university for the year, and a heart-breaking case. Bailey, a beagle cross is rushed into the emergency centre after being hit by a car, leaving his back legs paralysed. There is only one way to find out if Bailey will ever walk again; a CT scan to reveal the extent of the damage. But there is a problem Bailey's owner, hardworking single mum Jane, can't afford the scan. Without it, Susie and her colleagues can't diagnose properly. The following morning brings more bad news, Bailey's condition has deteriorated, he is now unable to urinate on his own and his life hangs in the balance. Susie now faces the prospect of raising the possibility of euthanasia to Jane, and, even more importantly, her 12-year-old son Isaac for whom Bailey is his best mate. Still unable to find the money for the vital scan, Jane and Isaac are left facing the hardest decision of all.Murdoch Veterinary Hospital is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and treats over 100 sick and injured animals every day, so students on duty have to be prepared for anything. There's no telling what they will be treating next. Their next case is an injured wild carpet python. It's not venomous but can still pack a punch.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Producer/writer Julia Redwood, series director Adam Barry. A Prospero Production
