Summary The 130th anniversary of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile has given occasion to publish a third book with writings by the sociologist Pedro Morandé. On this occasion, a selection of the 12 best articles and conferences that the author developed around the subject of university in a period of nearly 30 years was compiled. Most of the author's intellectual life took place in the university context. He was a professor for 45 years, as well as pro-rector and dean. His closeness to university work allowed him to know and understand the mission of the institution, feeling, at the same time, part of it. His concern for the subject of the university was fueled by the transformations that it was undergoing as a result of the university reform and the modernizing currents that required it to cover more and more functions of a technical nature, but producing an increasing divorce with society and culture. The apostolic constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae crosses most of his reflections, allowing us to understand the participation of the university in the mission of the Church
