Series Teachers TV
Summary In the second of three programmes at Bexleyheath School about boys' underachievement, John Bayley explores whether a lack of male role models is the cause. Head of English Laura Thompson thinks it might be, as only three of the 14 teachers in her department are male. But opinion is divided and Rosie Fewer, Head of Teaching and Learning at the school, is sceptical that gender is the issue. Bayley observes Glen Bone, one of the three male teachers to test some of these ideas. He finds Glen to be an engaging teacher, but concludes active learning is the key to raising boys' performance and that the style and technique of teaching is a lot more important than gender
