| Summary |
"Jungle Doctor, overworked and overdue for the annual break in his arduous labours, receives two invitations on the same day. One is to act as Medical Officer to an expedition in search of moving pictures of the wild life of Central Tanganyika. The other is to pay a visit to a mission hospital 400 miles away, in the same direction as the proposed safari. The first invitation makes it possible for him to accept the second, and the expedition duly starts. The party consists of Colonel Johnson, a well âÂÂknown former hunter of big-game, Bill Bailey, an enthusiastic photographer from Arizona, whom the Africans immediately dub âÂÂBwana KodakiâÂÂ, Jungle Doctor himself, and a varied collection of African helpers, including our old friends Simba and Mboga (âÂÂSpinichâÂÂ), all hugely delighted at the prospect before them. With such hopeful ingredients for his latest confection, Jungle Doctor is soon making our mouths water once more. Once the party is well past the tsetse-fly belt adventures start in earnest. Not only is there discovered to be a thief in the camp, and suspicion clearly points to Simba as the culprit, but Mboga decides to rescue from the clutches of an evil Masai a deformed African girl who can be cured by Jungle Doctor. Finally the dreaded sleeping-sickness strikes the party, and a period of intense activity enters, culminating in emergency aeroplane transport that fortunately makes the best of âÂÂhappy landings.âÂÂ" -- Dust jacket |
