Born in England in 1848, Henry Pincott arrived in Australia with his parents at the age of five. The family sailed for Victoria in the Eliza, settling in Geelong. Henry Pincott was educated at Geelong Grammar. A painter and scene painter, Pincott exhibited chalk drawings, oils and watercolours of Victorian, Tasmanian and New Zealand scenery from 1869. He held regular art unions offering his colonial landscapes as prizes. He also worked as a scene painter at the Theatre Royal in Hobart and Melbourne. In 1882 Pincott sailed to the United States of America and England, returning to Geelong in 1889. He died, quite young, in Perth in 1893.--Australian Book Auctions catalogue, 24-25 November 2014, no. 366
