Summary |
Vicky gives sympathy and first aid to one of the children who has hurt her knee. Claire in the story, On the Way Home, by Jill Murphny (Macmillan, 1981; pbk, 1984) has also hurt her knee. She tells her friends a series of far-fetched stories about how it happened; a wolf tries to eat her, a space ship carries her off, a giant picks her up. When she gets home, she tells her mum the less dramatic truth. Charlie sings a song about a hungry giant and some children have an adventure on a giant's breakfast table. Five fish fingers introduce the letter 'f' and there's an opportunity for writing practice. This series aims to encourage children in the early stages of reading, mainly through the enjoyment of shared stories, rhymes and reading practice; to help them to develop the skill of anticipation in reading for meaning; to demonstrate the differences in letter forms and 'sounds', concentrating on the consonants and blends in the initial position and using this letter knowledge as an aid to reading.Through the use of action, animation and imagery, the programs should sustain the children's desire to read while providing practice in using letter knowledge, language structure and contextual clues to develop mastery of the reading process.**Please note that this program/series has been created from masters kindly provided by DECS Tape Services in South Australia. These recordings have been collected over a period dating back to the early 1990s and as such, the picture quality may be of variable standard |
