Summary |
In 2021, Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia announced the Saudi Green Initiative, which is aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. Furthermore, the Initiative is aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 130 million tonnes and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 and also has a goal to plant 10 billion trees in Saudi Arabia and an additional 40 billion trees in the Middle East region for the purpose of addressing global climate change. The Saudi and Middle East Green initiatives would be an ambitious and complex endeavor in any part of the world but considering the geopolitical and environmental situation of the Middle East, the challenges are even more formidable. The case discusses the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiative, and the impact it can make on addressing the issue of climate change. As the Middle East is a region with varied geopolitics, what are the key challenges Saudi Arabia needs to overcome and how can the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiative be taken forward? Students will be asked to evaluate the importance of social, economic, and geopolitical factors, which affect sustainability efforts at an international level.Carbon emissions, Middle East, Middle East Green initiative, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Green initiative |
