The battery has been in use since the early 1800s but it is the last twenty years that has seen the most incredible growth in portable energy storage technology. Today, batteries provide power and on-demand energy to much of our modern, high tech world from the small back-up battery in your computer to units large enough to power cars, trucks, and space stations.
