Summary *Sexual references and surgical procedures*Every short male has his own frustrating story to tell. Cultures around the world seem to share the same obsession with size: it matters, big time. Women are hard-wired to equate height with sex appeal and society in general is stuck on the belief that in business and politics, tall people make the best leaders.S & M: Short and Male explores the relationship between height, self-esteem and success. From platform shoes to growth hormone injections to limb elongation surgery, S & M unveils the reality of the vertically challenged male trying to survive in a height-obsessed world. The program features psychologists, anthropologists and economists who all agree that height discrimination exists and that it is a serious issue.British, French and American studies all agree that the correlation between height and income is at least as dramatic as those involving sex and race. Studies show that short men earn less than their taller counterparts. Over the course of his working life, a six-footer earns on average $280,000 more than a 5'5" man.A study by the National Institute for Statistics and Economics in Paris found that taller men are 25 percent more likely to attract a mate than shorter men. In China, many government jobs are closed to people under average height. The Chinese believe that short stature puts them at a disadvantage in business and political negotiations with those from taller Western gene pools.PRODUCTION DETAILS: Written and directed by Howard Goldberg.
