Summary |
"Dr Grisha Sklovsky, a former President of AIIAV from 1974 to 1977, is best known as the foundation chairman of SBS Television, but it is his early life and his love affair with a young Australian woman from a prominent Melbourne family that reveal a remarkable story. By the time Grisha was 24, in 1939, he had lived through much of the turmoil affecting Europe in the early 20th century - and had witnessed much of it. A charming, sophisticated, brilliant and wealthy young Russian, he had led a privileged, albeit a forcedly peripatetic, life - Siberia, Berlin, France with doctoral research in a Nobel Prize-winning laboratory. War curtailed the promise of those early years. The war years were spent in England with the Czech Brigade after having faced, alongside the French army, the German blitzkrieg at the Marne. Grisha Sklovsky's story bears witness to great events as well as to personal tragedy, to triumphs and disappointments born of major shifts in international politics."--AIIAV website - book launch |
