Summary |
"Most observers now firmly believe that major reform in public education, perhaps even radical changes that would scarcely have been voiced a generation ago, will be the primary driving force to ameliorate these social problems. Psychologists and other behavioral scientists can be in the forefront of bringing about the necessary changes and scientific advancement for such reforms to succeed. It is highly likely that the next decade will see an ever-increasing involvement of psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, and social workers. They will be joining forces with educational specialists, not only in the research and development aspects of educational reform but also in the social engineering of major field experiments, model schools, and policy studies that will provide the basis for effective reforms. Part 1 of this book deals with the concept of the School of the Future as a community institution, how it fits into the national scene, and plans for evaluation. Part 2 is devoted to the models of intervention that are emerging in each of the four communities where the School of the Future is being developed"--Introduction.
