Community revitalization is a contemporary topic of interest, especially for locations impacted by such concerns as high unemployment, low educational attainment, and declining economic opportunities. This case features the efforts of community organizations in Richmond, California, who worked together with residents to respond to such challenges in the Nystrom neighborhood. This partnership has been in effect for nearly two decades. While the collaboration has produced many notable achievements during that time, there were challenges as well. This case chronicles how the Nystrom United Revitalization Effort (NURVE) partners pursued their shared vision and addressed setbacks along the way. The partners' commitment to this long-term effort resulted in meaningful improvements for Nystrom residents. This example offers valuable lessons for students who wish to engage effectively in similar collaborative efforts in their own communities
