Cast from the Storm is a timely and emotionally powerful documentary that examines how some of the most fragile members of our society - refugee children - can learn to face highly traumatic pasts by harnessing the power of drama.Forced into exile, hundreds of teenagers from war-torn countries start new lives in Sydney each year. In one Western Sydney high school, two inspiring women, Ruth Hartcher-O'Brien and Catherine Maguire-Donvito, run a ground-breaking drama program called 'Treehouse Theatre'. Using the power of theatre, they help young refugees overcome past traumas to rebuild their damaged lives.The film follows the remarkable process of transformation amongst one group of teenagers, cast adrift from families, homes and cultures in war-torn countries, from the early days of the program to their moving final performances on stage.Directed by David Mason.
