Summary |
With his portable 'bush studio', photographer Nicholas Adler has captured a haunting and confronting series of portraits of Aboriginal people from Western Australia. From the rugged, lush northern Kimberley to the harshness of the Gibson Desert, people from twenty different communities were invited to sit for the camera - not as exotic or academic snapshot-fodder, but as formally and proudly as any sitters in the classical tradition of portraiture. Defiance, pleasure, pride, even tragedy, will be found in this unique collection - none of these faces will easily be forgotten |
