Summary |
"The Australian Competency Standards for Occupational Therapists in Mental Health describe the units of competency that are expected of occupational therapists who have been practicing in mental health settings for two years. These Competency Standards for Occupational Therapists in Mental Health are intended to build on the Australian Competency Standards for Entry Level Occupational Therapists (1994), and to be used in conjunction with mental health policies, guidelines and practice standards. The Competency Standards provide a framework that articulates the domain and current scope of occupational therapy in mental health. The occupational therapy attitudes, knowledge and skills articulated in Section 4 of this document underpin the units of competence, and therefore are integral to competent occupational therapy practice. The Competency Standards are applicable to occupational therapists in occupational therapy specific or generic roles. Generic roles, such as case management, are an important part of the work of occupational therapists in many mental health settings, and occupational therapists at the level of competency described in this document would be expected to be competent in these generic roles. Occupational therapists in mental health view the continuing development of core competency standards for mental health professionals as important, but beyond the scope of this project"--Summary |
