The Nutcracker Story pays homage to one of the world's favourite fairytales - the Nutcracker. It tells the story behind this famous tale and looks at what makes Tchaikovsky's enduring ballet so popular with children and ballet companies the world over.First performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg on December 18, 1892, the Nutcracker ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman's fairytale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Nutcracker was originally one of Hoffman's dark, moralistic fairytales.
