Summary |
Nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaygach keeps Russia's northernmost sea route navigational even during the harshest months of the Arctic winter, maintaining the shortest route between northern Europe's busy harbours and those of Asia. The reactor produces enough energy to keep the ship running non-stop for four years without refuelling. A legacy of the old USSR, the icebreaker's days may be numbered.
