Notes The 1st work "written to be played on the violin, viola, cello or double-bass. I composed four unique solos--each a variation--which could also be played together as a quartet ... Each instrument's piece takes its name from one of the square's corner stars: 'Markab' for violin, 'Algenib' for viola, 'Alpheratz' for cello and 'Scheat' for double bass"--Composer's program notes
