This case study features research on the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps to examine ethical challenges that result from conducting research on a group with whom the researcher and most sociologists find political difference. The case study first introduces the organization. It then reflects on four key challenges that arise from studying organizations that tend to diverge from sociological ways of knowing: becoming aware of one's personal bias, critically considering the use of deception, ensuring objectivity, and overcoming suspicion from participants. Possible methods to enhance objectivity and validity are also explored
