From the red earth of Broken Hill comes a look at one of the most unusual emergency departments in the country. Experience just how different a life-threatening crisis can be in one of the most isolated locations on earth. In episode two, a grey nomad has a horrifying accident on a remote stretch of road, baby Chloe is flown into hospital with gastro but doctors find a more worrying symptom, and the city doctors get a taste of the outback at the local races.After two family tragedies - the death of her son in a plane crash and the death of her husband shortly after, 68-year-old Yvonne embarks on a solo outback adventure. On a remote stretch of road she has a horrific accident rolling her campervan several times. She is flown to Broken Hill Base Hospital for urgent treatment. Yvonne's daughter rushes over from New Zealand to be by her bed, the memory of her brother's tragic accident still fresh in her mind.Nine-month-old Chloe has had a long bout of gastro. She is flown in from a remote property in South Australia by the Royal Flying Doctors and examined by the hospital paediatrician. Concern shifts to a rash that has developed on Chloe's body. Could this be the first sign of the deadly bacterial meningitis?Vince has come into hospital with scalded genitals. He had been boiling and skinning sausages for his wife, as he has done many times, when he accidently poured the water onto his lap.
