There are about 8.5 million doctors in the world and about 18 million nurses. Unsurprisingly there are many more in the rich world than anywhere else. Worse than that, developing countries that spend their limited resources training medical staff often see them leave for better paid jobs abroad: it's a medical brain drain. Is there anything that can be done to regulate the market in doctors and nurses, and are there any other solutions on offer? We try to find out by looking at both sides of the problem
