Award-winning director Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, Fog of War) follows the story of a former beauty queen who is charged with abducting and imprisoning a young Mormon missionary. The program dissects the obsessions of ex-model Joyce McKinney, who claims to have an IQ of 168 and thought she had found the man of her dreams in a devout Mormon, Kirk Anderson, back in the 1970s. When Anderson broke off their engagement to go do missionary work in England, McKinney followed him, kidnapped him, and attempted to get him under her power by forcing him to have sex with her.Morris revisits the story, in all its oddity and humour, through interviews with McKinney and others. And while Morris calls this film a love story, it is more: an exploration of America in an age when reality grows inseparable from Hollywood fantasy.
