Summary Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical, faith-based nonprofit dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness. Habitat has been hailed as one of the most successful nonprofits of the past 30 years. Issues began to arise between Millar Fuller, Habitat's founder, and its board in the early 2000s. As Fuller approached the age of 70 in 2004, the board began to plan for transition and appointed a former board chairman as managing director. Then, in January 2005, the board fired Fuller and his wife, who also had held a position at Habitat, and appointed an interim CEO. Thus, the case deals with the controversy that surrounded the transition in leadership from Habitat's founder
