Summary |
"In 1934 Ewen shared a scholarship with a fellow architectural postgraduate student, Keith Mackay, given by the then Greek consul in Melbourne, Mr A.J.J. Lucas. ... They set off from London on a pilgrim's ticket ... through Italy, bound for a month in Greece. There they produced a thesis, photos, + ... drawing of the monuments to Lysicrates, and the theatre of Dyonisis on the temple of Apollo at Bassae. ... They walked or haggled for cheap transport over a large part of Greece + some of the islands. Here is a little of his diary which he kept very faithfully each night even if they'd walked many miles that day."--Volume 12. |
