Summary OVERVIEW: This program provides nurses and other healthcare professionals with an understanding of the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals for long term care environments. While the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals for long term care are largely unchanged for 2018, the look and feel of this course has been updated with a new format and new scenes and graphics. The following goals, and the elements of practice to meet these goals, are described in this program: Improve the accuracy of resident identification. Improve the safety of using medications. Reduce the risk of health care-associated infections. Reduce the risk of resident harm resulting from falls. Prevent healthcare-associated pressure ulcers. The program also describes a sample model of a resident safety plan that the Commission has suggested for every institution. OBJECTIVES:The goal of this program is to define and discuss the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals for long term care environments for 2018, and provides a detailed review of the various patient safety goals for long term care that have been identified for implementation, plus the Elements of Performance that will be required to meet these goals. After completing this course, the learner should be able to: Identify the concerns and problems that led to development of the Joint Commission's NPSG. Describe the patient safety goals long term care setting. Identify and implement the key Elements of Performance developed to accomplish the patient safety goals
