Summary This bold and ambitious program reveals in the starkest terms the amount of energy we use and waste in our homes. An unsuspecting UK family will be disconnected from the electricity national grid for 24 hours, and unknown to them, all their energy needs will be powered from a completely unexpected source - an 80 strong team of cyclists using specially adapted bikes who will try to provide all the electricity they consume in a single day. Each time a member of the family turns on an appliance the Human Power Station must respond. Just the simple act of boiling a kettle will take the efforts of more than 20 people cycling flat out, while turning on the tumble dryer will involve many more. Only at the end of the day will the family be let in on the secret. With billions of dollars of energy wasted across the world every year and dwindling fossil fuel supplies, electricity consumption is a hot topic.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Dragonfly Film and Television Production.
