From the fall of Berlin to the fall of the Berlin Wall -- A decade of change in the 1990s: a new focus on poverty and governance -- New development targets for a new millennium: the MDGs -- Supporting the Millennium Development Goals: the story up to the global financial crisis of 2008 -- The beginnings of a new and less polarized world economic and political order -- Joining the dots: global public goods and policy coherence -- The next fifteen years: what might happen next in aid and development -- A compendium of key words and concepts in aid and development
Summary
This study sets aid and development in its historical context, and shows the strong linkages between aid and development priorities on the one hand, and political realities and shifts on the other. It looks at different ideas about development (and concepts of 'developing' and 'developed' countries) and how aid can support development. It makes it clear that, ultimately, development is about the well-being of everyone, and of the planet, and must be addressed as a global issue
