Summary Pedro Almodovar's multi-award winner All About My Mother received Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes and at the British Academy Awards in 2000. Manuela (Cecilia Roth) lives with her 17-year-old son, Esteban, in Madrid. On his birthday, they go to see a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire starring Huma Roja (Marisa Paredes). While trying to get her autograph, Esteban is killed by a car. Manuela is distraught and returns to Barcelona to find the boy's father. While in Barcelona, she meets an old friend, a transsexual prostitute called Agrada, and a young promiscuous nun, Rosa (Penelope Cruz), who is pregnant by another transsexual. By a stroke of strange coincidence, Manuela gets a job working for Huma Roja as her assistant. The relationships that Manuela forms with her colourful new friends allows her to deal with her grief after the death of her son. Written and directed by Pedro Almodovar and also stars Antonia San Juan, Candela Pena and Rosa Maria Sarda. (From Spain, in Spanish, English subtitles) (1999)
